Operational Dashboards
Real-time visualisation of the operational data that matters, designed for decision-making, not contemplation. We build dashboards on top of connected plant data, with the views each role needs to run day-to-day operations.
Real-time operational dashboards for industrial plants
An operational dashboard shows the current state of the operation: which lines are running, at what pace, with what quality and which problems are open right now. Unlike a production report, which summarises a closed period for analysis, the dashboard answers "how is it going?" and refreshes on its own, so the team can react while the shift is still in progress. Both layers complement each other; when the need is periodic, comparable reports, the right tool is intelligent reporting.
The KPIs that earn a place on screen are the ones that trigger decisions: OEE and its components (explained in our OEE guide), active stoppages and their cause, production against the shift plan, reject rate and machine status. Each role gets its own view over the same data: a large, distance-readable screen for operators next to the line, an aggregated view for shift managers and a plant-level summary with trends for management.
Real time has to be honest: machine status in seconds, production counters within the minute, and every figure showing its actual refresh rate. The precondition is connected plant data, which Captia covers through its industrial connectivity area; the AI unit builds the visualisation and, beyond it, the analytics and alerting layers described on the Captia AI page, including operational analytics for pattern analysis over historical data.
How it connects to the system
Captia AI is a capability of Captia Technology. This solution relies on data Connect integrates and priorities Consulting defines.
Key concepts
Other solutions
- Intelligent Reporting
Automatic reports that synthesise what is relevant in the operation without manual intervention. Connected plant data becomes periodic, comparable reports that are generated and distributed automatically to the people who need them.
- Automatic Workflows
Automatic workflows that execute actions when defined conditions are met in the operation. Each workflow is designed on real plant data, chaining the notifications, records and tasks that today depend on manual steps.
- Automatic Rules
Rules system that acts on operational data: alerts, notifications and actions without human intervention. Each rule is defined with explicit criteria over plant signals, so every response is documented and can be reviewed by the team.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between an operational dashboard and a production report?
- A report looks backwards: it summarises a closed period and is used to analyse and account for results. An operational dashboard shows the current state of the line with data that refreshes on its own, so the team can react while the shift is still running. They complement each other rather than replace each other.
- Which KPIs are usually shown on a plant dashboard?
- It depends on who is looking at it, but common ones are OEE and its components (availability, performance and quality), active stoppages and their cause, units produced against the shift plan, reject rate and machine status. The point is not to pile up indicators but to pick the few that trigger a decision when they change.
- What does my plant need to have real-time dashboards?
- The precondition is that machine and process data is already connected and flowing into a data platform, which at Captia is covered by the industrial connectivity area. On that base, the dashboard is a visualisation layer: indicators, role-based views and the refresh rate each signal supports. Without connected data there is no real time.
- Can operators and management share the same dashboard?
- It is better not to. Operators need a screen readable from a distance, with their line status, the active stoppage and progress against the shift target. Management needs an aggregated view across lines or plants, with trends and comparison against plan. That is why we design different views per role on top of the same data.
