Industrial energy savings calculator

Enter your plant’s annual electricity consumption, the share of compressed air and the current and target leak levels: this free calculator estimates the kWh and euros you would save per year by reducing leaks, with the calculation broken down step by step and no data leaving your browser.

Estimación orientativa basada en los rangos de fugas del DOE (20-30 % sin programa de detección, <10 % con mantenimiento). El ahorro real se verifica contra línea base (opción C del IPMVP) o con submedición del compresor (opción B).

How the saving is calculated

The calculation chains four steps, all visible in the results:

  • Compressed-air consumption = annual plant consumption × compressed-air share (%).
  • Leak reduction = current leaks − target leaks.
  • kWh saved = compressed-air consumption × leak reduction.
  • Annual saving (€) = kWh saved × average kWh price.

The pre-loaded example (4.8 GWh/year plant, compressed air at 18% of consumption, leaks from 25% to 10%) yields around 130,000 kWh and around €18,000 per year. The full context, covering baseline, IPMVP and measure prioritisation, is in the industrial energy optimisation guide.

From estimate to verified savings

The calculator sizes the opportunity; capturing it requires measuring, setting a baseline and acting on consumption. At Captia Energy we cover that journey with energy efficiency and connected energy management projects, integrating energy into plant operations.

Frequently asked questions

How does this tool calculate energy savings?
It starts from the plant’s annual electricity consumption and the share of compressed air in that consumption, and estimates the saving from reducing leaks from the current level to the target level: air kWh × leak reduction = kWh saved, which multiplied by the electricity price gives the annual saving in euros.
Why does it focus on compressed air?
Compressed air is one of the cross-cutting utilities with the most avoidable losses in industry: DOE reference ranges place leaks at 20-30% of generated air in plants without a detection programme, versus under 10% with systematic maintenance. That makes it a measurable, quick-payback starting point.
Is the result a guaranteed saving?
No: it is an indicative estimate to size the opportunity. Actual savings are verified against an energy baseline, following the IPMVP protocol (option C on the utility bill, or option B with sub-metering of the compressor).
Is the calculator free and does it store my data?
It is free and runs entirely in your browser: the calculation is client-side arithmetic, with no network calls and no persistence. We do not send or store any consumption data you enter.
